Air Valve

Air Valve

Air valves are hydro-mechanical devices designed to automatically release air and wastewater gases or admit air during the filling, draining or operation of liquid piping systems for water and wastewater services.

Air can be drawn in the pipeline through pipeline leaks, at damaged joint seals, through leaking valve packing, and through any loose and leaking flange connection. Noisy water pipes caused by air will sound like vibrating and rapid ticking. The sound can be loud and annoying. The presence of air in pipeline which is in the process of being charged or is in service may cause :

  • Delayed filling
  • Reduction in flow capacity
  • Reduction in pumping efficiency
  • Increased risk of water hammer
  • Increased risk of corrosion on internal pipe surfaces
  • Increased energy consumption

Suitably designed SIGMAFLOW air valves carry out the following functions :

  • Automatically exhaust air from the pipeline during filling
  • Release air accumulating during pressurised operation
  • Admit air when the pipeline is emptying

Air release valves are installed at the highest points in a pipeline where air naturally collects. Air bubbles enter the valve and displace the liquid inside, lowering the liquid level. When the level drops to where it no longer buoys the float, the float drops.

Single chamber, double orifice, triple function Air valve
Salient features :

  • Most compact design and very few parts
  • Completely tamper-proof
  • Much better performance than double chamber kinetic air valve
  • Performs triple action i.e; aeration of pipeline when emptying, ventilation of pipeline when filling and venting the pipeline under full operating pressure
  • Bend can be given on request

Technical features :

  • Valve body is of Ductile Iron
  • Rating : PN 1.6
  • End connection : Flanged end
  • Epoxy coated surface protection
  • All inside metal parts are made of stainless steel
  • Test Pressure: Body -1.5 X PN, Seat -1.1 X PN

Double chamber, double orifice, triple function Air valve

Kinetic Air valve, double chamber as per IS 14845 : 2000
Salient features :

  • High rate of air discharge and ventilation
  • Can be made tamper-proof
  • Effective sealing and long life

Technical features :

  • Valve body and cover is of Grey cast iron / Ductile iron
  • Rating : PN 1.0 / PN 1.6
  • Floats can be of timber core with vulcanite coating / Stainless steel
  • Coating : Black Japan for CI / Epoxy for DI
  • Test Pressure: Body -1.5 X PN, Seat -1.1 X PN

Sewage Air valve

These valves conform the proper operation of sewage lines allowing the entrance and the discharge of large volumes of air, both during pipe draining and filling operations, and the release of air pockets during working conditions.

Salient features :

  • Single Chamber
  • Suitable for application at sewage main transmission lines. irrigation systems in presence of solids/debris in suspension,
    treatment plants

Technical features :

  • Working Pressure: PN10/ PN16
  • All inner metal parts made of stainless steel.
  • Sewage Air valve
    80 NB – 200 NB
  • Epoxy coating thickness 250 microns to give maximum corrosion resistance
  • Flange drilling as per IS:1538
  • Test Pressure: Body -1.5 X PN, Seat -1.1 X PN

Air cushion valve

These high performance Air cushion valves are designed to ensure system efficiency by air release and air intake during pumping in and draining out from the pipeline respectively. These valves are used to exhaust the air slowly that was admitted to the pipeline. The slow release of air prevents sudden re-joining of separated columns in a
pipeline and the associated pressure surges.

Salient features :

  • Discharge huge quantities of air at system start-up.
  • Provides pipeline vacuum protection.
  • Prevent water column separation.
  • Resilient seal ensure drop tight sealing.

Technical features :

  • Main body is of Mild steel and Top housing is of cast iron
  • Flanged end to IS 1538
  • Rating : PN 1.0 / PN 1.6
  • Test pressure : Body 1.5 x PN, Seat 1.1 x PN
